Curbside Single-Stream Recycling
The City of Decatur, IL, and many municipalities offer curbside recycling. Recycling is collected in a single-stream so that items, such as paper, plastic bottles, and tin cans, do not have to be separated by type, but may be collected when co-mingled.
Items accepted include cardboard and paperboard packaging, aluminum & tin cans, glass & plastic bottles and containers, newspapers, and phone books. So as not to contaminate recycling loads, prohibited items such as styrofoam, plastic bags, and plastic films should not be placed with recyclables. For a complete list of accepted and prohibited materials, please view the printable list for curbside recycling.
Local businesses and organizations accept many items that are not accepted in curbside recycling. In fact, over fifty Macon County, Illinois businesses and organizations collect over 100 different types of items for recycling or reuse. To learn more, see the Guide to Recycling and Safe Disposal.
