Curbside & Drop-off Recycling
The City of Decatur as well as a number of municipalities offer curbside recycling. Residents may also deposit recyclable items in the drop-off recycling boxes that are located throughout Macon County. Both curbside recycling and drop-off recycling are collected in a single-stream so that items, such as paper, plastic bottles and tin cans, do not have to be separated by type but may be collected when co-mingled.
The list of accepted items for single-stream recycling, whether items are collected curbside or at a drop-off box location, is the same except that glass is not accepted in the drop-off boxes. Items accepted include cardboard and paperboard packaging, aluminum and tin cans, plastic bottles and containers, newspapers and phone books. So as not to contaminate recycling loads, prohibited items such as Styrofoam, plastic bags and plastic films should not be placed with recyclables. For a complete list of accepted and prohibited items, view the printable lists for both curbside recycling and drop-off recycling by clicking on the links below.

In fact, over 50 Macon County businesses and organizations, collect over 100 items for recycling or reuse. To learn more, see the Guide to Recycling and Safe Disposal by clicking here.
