old door with knobThe Decatur Area Habitat for Humanity Restore accepts donations of building materials in good working condition such as doors, plumbing fixtures, hardware, flooring and lumber. Donations are being accepted at the Restore at 932 East Wood Street in Decatur from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and  from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays. Per Public Act 098-2542, loads of asphalt roofing shingles, which are not co-mingled with other wastes, may not be accepted at Illinois landfills when a shingle recycling facility with a Beneficial Use Determination (BUD) is located within 25 miles.

Mercury-containing thermostats are prohibited from being disposed in landfills but are collected through a manufacturer take-back program operated by the Thermostat Recycling Corporation.  Thermostats dropped-off for recycling should not be disassembled so that the mercury capsule is contained within the entire unit.  Local program participants which accept thermostats for recycling include:
