Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event
Household hazardous waste, such as automotive fluids, yard and pool chemicals and harsh cleaners, is being collected Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Progress City USA north of the Richland Community College campus, Decatur. Any Illinois resident may attend the seven-hour event by registering for an appointment time.
Registration is required for attendance. Click here to go to the registration site.
The following household items will be accepted free-of-charge at the collection: oil-based paints, paint thinners, spray paints, herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, lawn chemicals, old gasoline, used motor oil, antifreeze, solvents, pool chemicals, cleaning products, drain cleaners, mercury, unwanted medicines and pharmaceuticals, hobby and do-it-yourself chemicals, fluorescent bulbs and household batteries.
Unaccepted items such as tires, electronics, propane tanks, fireworks, fire extinguishers, automotive batteries, controlled substances, potentially infectious medical wastes and sharps as well as commercial, institutional and agricultural wastes will not be collected at the event. Residents are directed to refrain from bringing latex paint to the collection since latex paint is not hazardous and can safely be managed at a paint collection or dried and then discarded with regular trash.
