Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event
Household hazardous waste, such as automotive fluids, yard and pool chemicals and harsh cleaners, is being collected Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 115 South Sangamon Avenue in downtown Gibson City, Illinois. Macon County residents are encouraged to attend this event, which is open to all Illinois residents. The event is sponsored by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and hosted by the Ford County Soil & Water Conservation District..
The following household items will be accepted free-of-charge at the collection: oil-based paints, paint thinners, spray paints, herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, lawn chemicals, old gasoline, used motor oil, antifreeze, solvents, pool chemicals, cleaning products, drain cleaners, mercury, unwanted medicines and pharmaceuticals, hobby and do-it-yourself chemicals, fluorescent bulbs and household batteries.
Unaccepted items such as tires, electronics, propane tanks, fireworks, fire extinguishers, automotive batteries, controlled substances, potentially infectious medical wastes and sharps as well as commercial, institutional and agricultural wastes will not be collected at the event. Residents are directed to refrain from bringing latex paint to the collection since latex paint is not hazardous and can safely be managed at a paint collection or dried and then discarded with regular trash.
